BEAUTY AND WELLNESS

“No elegance is possible without perfume. It is the unseen, unforgettable, ultimate accessory.”

– Coco Chanel

“The beauty of fragrance is that it speaks to your heart…and hopefully someone else’s.”

– Elizabeth Taylor

“Perfume is like a new dress, it makes you quite simply marvelous.”

– Estée Lauder

“Perfume puts the finishing touch to elegance — a detail that subtly underscores the look, an invisible extra that completes a man and a woman’s personality. Without it, there is something missing.”

– Gianni Versace

“Perfume is that last and best reserve of the past, the one which when all our tears have run dry, can make us cry again!”

– Marcel Proust

Perfumes have enchanted Alessandra Mattanza since she was a child growing up in the Italian countryside and, also, when she was in Venice, trying to explore the scents of the flowers in secret gardens, hidden inside the city.

In the past, around the beginning of her journalistic career, she started writing full-time about beauty and wellness for ELLE online, in Milan, for ELLE’s deputy editor Eugenio Gallavotti. Since then, she has always been passionate about the mystery of healing, from the Buddhist Tibetan monks to the American Indians in Arizona, to the New Age Movement in Sedona, where she learned from the stone Circle of Life, and to many other wonders.

Alessandra has also discovered so much from some wonderful contemporary doctors, who live their profession as a mission. At the same time, she has become interested in alternative medicine, in the power of plants, which she learned from the local people in French Polynesia – among them from Tumi Brando, Marlon Brando’s granddaughter who lives at The Brando, Tetiaroa -, as well as from the Australian Indigenous people, from the Maasai in Maasai Mara, when she lived in Kenya for a few months, and from Chinese medicine. She developed an interest in many types of treatments, among them, acupressure, reiki, the positive energy of martial arts, yoga, Thai Chi, and massages.

Alessandra’s interests for treating face, body, and hair reach into the past, back to the time of Cleopatra, including the Roman Baths and the Turkish hammam, and into the present day. The treatments are always special, magical, connected to nature or to a special therapist, a wellness guru, a doctor who is into discovering, learning, and improving life, fascinated by human beings, a visionary willing to fight the passage of time.
